Introducing a new superhero team from Marvel Guardians of The Galaxy serves as the tenth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by James Gunn, the film is set light years from Earth, and follows ‘Star-Lord’ Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who, 26 years after being abducted from Earth, finds himself the prime target of a manhunt after discovering an orb wanted by the powerful villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). Unexpectedly finding himself part of a team of disparate misfits including Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon, Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Quill must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals when he discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the entire cosmos.
Expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, it’s exciting in itself to be introduced to a new set of superhero characters. We all love Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, but this was the perfect time to throw some new faces at us Marvel fans. With an outlaw cowboy space pirate, a green chick, a WWE wrestler, a racoon, and a tree, we couldn’t be happier.
Not only is Guardians of The Galaxy the best summer blockbuster of 2014, it is also the best superhero film of the year, which says a lot to top the likes of Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But Guardians of The Galaxy has it all – comedy, action, likeable characters, evil villains, epic moments, great special effects, and one hell of an excellent soundtrack. Set in a bright, new world set in a faraway galaxy, Guardians of The Galaxy is a pretty unique film for Marvel and there were some big risks to be taken, but they certainly pulled it off. This really is Marvel at its most fun.
The all-new characters are awesome. Chris Pratt takes an excellent lead and he’s captured a huge fan base from doing this film. But his support, also including Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Peter Serafinowicz, Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, and Benicio Del Toro, are fantastic, too. Marvel always know how to be consistent with their style, bringing everything together perfectly.
Even if you’re not fond of such superhero films full of fantasy and sci-fi, this will be the one to turn you.
