Christina Hendricks has been discussing her role in the upcoming Ryan Gosling-written and directed fantasy, How to Catch a Monster, this week, as we are told that her character stars in a fetish club.
In an interview with Vulture who caught up with the Mad Men actress at the Toronto International Film Festival this week, Hendricks said that she was “crazy flattering” to get the offer as it is “his first big film, and he could have gotten anyone!”
She added that, “It was very heart-warming and the biggest compliment ever”, and that her Drive co-star first got in touch with her a few months ago about the role, when he told her that he was writing a script with her in mind.
“He sent the script over in this cool box with an interesting little key, and cool artwork in it,” she recalled. “It was like the full package! And then I read the script and was in love with it, so I called him back and said, ‘Yeah, please.’”
As for the film’s plot, Hendricks went on to detail that her role of Billy is “supporting two children and trying to provide a home for them and a place of comfort in a continuously harder place to be. And I find myself working in this very surreal club that gets me into a sort of predicament, and in the meantime, these boys are off on their own adventures and they discover this underground city.”
Sound exciting enough? Well, there’s more. When asked what kind of club her character works at Hendricks responded, “Fetish.” I think we can agree that this is going to a brilliant fantasy film already.
As Gosling’s first film, it is now in its pre-production status. “I’m sure it will be incredibly clever, and Ryan already has storyboards and pictures of neighborhoods and homes,” said Hendricks, “and he’s already collecting music for it … when you read it, it gives you the feeling, maybe, of a memory. Something from your childhood that you can’t really pinpoint.”
Who knew Gosling had such talent away from his acting… and his music… okay, maybe he can do everything.
