DreamWorks Animation has acquired the company Classic Media in a deal worth $155m this week, picking up the rights to many properties including Casper, The Lone Ranger, Lassie, Where’s Waldo and many more.

According to sources the company plan to licence out material to others for live action films, but that they are also likely to keep a number of the films for themselves to bring the characters back to our screens in animated features too.

The Classic Media’s property consists of more than 400 family entertainment titles including some of the world’s leading entertainment brands which also include Postman Pat, Underdog, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Gumby.

It’s obvious from this snippet of Classic Media’s portfolio as to why DreamWorks fought so hard to win the deal, so we can be sure to expect some of our childhood favourite characters to return to the big screen.

The company intend to bring out eight films every three years but it’s unlikely that we will see any of these recent purchases for a few years yet. So what would you like to see first?
