(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)

The first – French – trailer for David Cronenberg’s hard-hitting drama Cosmopolis has been released this week. Based on Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name, the film follows a millionaire, Eric Packer (Robert Pattinson), on a trek across Manhattan, which is followed up with the tag line “How far can he go before he goes too far?”

From the looks of the new trailer, it looks as if he will go very far indeed. Containing scenes of self-harm with a gun, sex, weird creatures, knife violence, and, well, even more sex, the trailer fits a lot of powerful footage in for how little it actually shows.

At only the 34 seconds long, it’s undeniably a very different angle for the Twilight star, Pattinson, as he takes the lead role. So what do we think? Can he pull off a Cronenberg film? Or is Cosmopolis doomed from the start?

Also starring Samantha Morton and Jay Baruchel, the film is set to be released sometime this year. You can see the new trailer below, but please be warned that it is not safe for work as it does contain a lot of sex and violence.
