Scribe Drew Goddard has been discussing a sequel to producer J.J. Abrams’ and director Matt Reeves’ monster pic, Cloverfield, this month.
Writer of the first instalment which was released in 2008, Goddard recently attended the South By Southwest Film Festival to show off his directorial debut, The Cabin in the Woods, which is set to be released on 13th April.
Now he’s ready for a Cloverfield sequel: “I’m in, I’m ready to do it,” he told Shock Till You Drop. “Someone call J.J. and tell him to get moving, but because Matt and J.J. and I have been fortunate enough to be busy, it’s hard syncing our schedules up. We’re all very passionate about returning to that world.”
When asked if an idea is on paper yet, he responded that, “Nothing would make me happier than to get the three of us in the room to get started.”
He continued: “If you asked each of us what we wanted to do, you’ll get three different answers, which is how the first film was. The aesthetic of Cloverfield benefits from that. Three voices pulling it.”
Either way, Abrams is currently shooting Star Trek 2 and Reeves is involved with a number of projects, so we can’t expect anything soon. Still, it’s good news to hear!
