English actor James Purefoy, best known for portraying Mark Antony in the HBO series Rome, has signed on for the second starring role opposite Kevin Bacon in Kevin Williamson‘s Fox TV pilot this week.
The untitled project has been described as an edge-of-the-seat thriller which centers around the characters of Joe Carroll (Purefoy), a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers, and a retired FBI profiler (Bacon) who finds himself in the middle of it.
When Purefoy was considering the role of Joe Carroll he was already holding 4 offers for other parts, but, like Bacon, he was among the most sought-after actors for this pilot season.
Williamson, creator of Dawson’s Creek and the hit horror franchise Scream, is set to write and serve as executive producer for the series, which will be produced by Warner Bros TV and Williamson’s studio-based Outerbanks Entertainment, whilst The Vampire Diaries director Marcos Siega is also set to direct the pilot.
If the pilot goes onto become a series, as well, it will produce 15 episodes a season instead of the standard 22 – a condition set in Bacon’s contract. For now that’s all we know, but we will let you know more as soon as we hear anything.
