The second season of An Idiot Abroad premieres on the Science channel this month, so here’s two new promotional videos – a full-length trailer and a Science promo which includes commentary from the show’s creators – to show you what you can look forward to.
An Idiot Abroad is a British travel documentary series, which originally aired in the UK on Sky1. Created by and featuring Karl Pilkington, the show is also created by his former radio show colleagues, comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
The first series of the show saw Pilkington visit the Seven Wonders of the World. But Pilkington isn’t any ordinary man, and this isn’t any ordinary travel documentary. Pilkington is a pessimistic ‘idiot’, but he is completely vulnerable. Whilst touring some of the greatest cities in the world, an experience most would relish, Gervais and Merchant set up tasks for him to do and cultural situations for him to experience, making his time abroad not the most easy-going of experiences.
The second series’ premise is around a Bucket List, a list of 100 things that most people would like to do before they die, which Pilkington is given the chance to choose one of during each episode. This series sees Pilkington participate, even if rather miserably, in tasks such as dressing up as a lady boy, becoming a wrestler, and being buried alive. He seems to have become a little more resilient in this series, but it is still funny to see.
The promotional videos, which can be seen below, give us a sneak peek into the series, as we hear Gervais, Merchant and the one and only Pilkington discuss the new season and why it is being classed as a ‘scientific’ program.
The new series premieres on 21st January at 10PM on Science. Watch the videos here.
