I had to research events taking place in the summer for locals and tourists in the Cornwall area.
26 Flavours of Cornwall
1 – 26 July, Trebah Garden, Mawnan Smith
Showcasing creative collaborations between writers and designers as they explore the 26 of the country’s most distinctive flavours, this exhibition will whet your appetite for the taste of Cornwall, with everything from fresh scallops with rock samphire to Cornish apple tart with Kea plum ice cream, as well as the chance to look around the beautiful garden itself.
Garden Opera – La Traviata
23 July, Wheal Martyn Museum and Country Park
For the very first time, Wheal Martyn play host to the vibrant outdoor Garden Opera with a fantastic performance of Verdi’s La Traviata. Hosted in the historic atmosphere of Wheal Martyn, the event is helping to raise funds towards the town’s China Clay Museum.
29 July – 29 August, Eden Project
Labyrinth is the leading contemporary circus company in the UK, featuring award-winning performers, NoFitState. With the grand finale inside Eden’s ‘big top’, this event brings a unique experience to the Eden Project this summer.
Relentless Boardmasters – Beach Sessions
10 – 14 August, Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay
Once again, Europe’s largest surf, skate and music festival heads back to Newquay. For a more intimate atmosphere, The Relentless Beach Sessions provide a mix of the best in new and established music in the bar overlooking the stunning Fistral Beach. Acts include The Futureheads, Tall Ships, Zero 7 DJ Set, Natty and Reverend Soundsystem.
Fowey Royal Regatta
14 – 20 August, Fowey
This is one of the best Regatta events on the Cornish Calendar, with a Red Arrows display, sailing and raft races, a carnival with magnificent floats, a massive fireworks display and performances from live bands every night.
Cornwall Design Fair
20 -21 August, Trereife House, Newlyn
In association with Hidden Art, The Cornwall Design Fair presents a wide range of contemporary Cornish design with furniture, interior products, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and fashion accessories for sale, with design-led workshops and the chance to wander the historic house.
World Bellyboard Championships 2011
5 Sept, Chapel Porth, St Agnes
A bit of wood and a swimsuit is all you need at the World Bellyboard Championships, held every year to celebrate everything that is great about surfing in Cornwall. No wetsuits are allowed, although 1920s style swimsuits are recommended.
Polo On The Beach
6 September, Watergate Bay
The ever-popular Polo on the Beach returns for its fifth year. Watch this impressive sport whilst sat on the beach, sipping champagne and enjoying the barbecue. What’s not to enjoy? Event hospitality tickets are also available which include champagne, canapés and live music at The Hotel.
Newquay Fish Festival
9 – 11 Sep, Newquay Harbour
Giving Newquay the opportunity to showcase its fish-filled harbour and the local chefs to show off their skills in a variety of cooking demos, this is an event for both residents and visitors alike, celebrating one of Newquay’s hidden gems.
