The assistant manager of Balderton Pre-School has stepped down from her role after working at the school for 26 years.

Mrs Jean Newson of Balderton has decided to take a break from the management responsibilities but will continue to work at the pre-school part-time.

She said she has been looking forward to spending more time with her family and being able to cut down on the paper work.

“Mrs Newson has always shown dedication and love to all of the children that have passed through the pre-school,” said Chairman of the pre-school committee, Sarah Turner. “She is a popular member of staff.”

Mrs Newson has been working at the school since 1983. She took the role as deputy manager in the 1990’s and has had many roles since she started.

She has just celebrated her 60th birthday and as of next week will only be working 2 days a week. She said: “I didn’t want to leave the children completely.”

Mrs Newson became involved in teaching when her sons began to attend the pre-school. When it expanded into two sites in 2006, she took responsibility for running the Main Street site. The second site is at Chuter Ede Primary School.

She has experience many changes in the running of the pre-school with the amends of the Children Act 1989 and earlier foundation changes. Her most recent highlight has been celebrating the pre-schools 40th anniversary.

As her last day of assistant manager, Mrs Newson was handed flowers and cards and thanked by other members of staff.

Mrs Janis Best and Miss Win Senior will be taking over and sharing the role as assistant manager from 1st September.
