Flowserve LFC Charity Bike Ride

(This was written as part of my work experience at Newark Advertiser.)

Over £1000 has been raised for Beaumond House and Flowserve Ladies Football Club on a charity bike ride last Sunday.

Miss Gemma Streets, 23, of Boundary Road, Newark, is a member of the Flowserve LFC. She organised the bike ride from Newark to Skegness which took place last week.

Flowserve LFC are the only ladies football team in the Newark area. They originally wanted to raise money for their team, but Miss Streets’ grandmother, Jean Streets, recently died.

Wedding Memories Exhibition for Ollerton of Yesteryear

(This was written as part of my work experience at Newark Advertiser.)

An exhibition of old wedding photographs of local people will be opened by the Mayor of Ollerton and Boughton at the beginning of August.

The display of over 350 photographs will be opened by Irene Miller on Monday 2nd August until Thursday 6th August. The exhibition will be held at The Dukeries Complex, Whinney Lane, as part of the Ollerton of Yesteryear committee.

First Crop On The Menu

(This was published in the Newark Advertiser on 30th July 2010 as part of my work experience.)

The Mayor of Ollerton and Boughton dug up the first crop of potatoes at Ollerton Primary School last week.

Irene Miller visited the school on Wednesday 21st July to help pupils tender their new vegetable garden.

She said: “It’s an absolutely wonderful idea. We’re moving away from growing our own local produce, but you can see that the children are interested in it. That’s what it’s all about.”
