(Written for Lost In The Multiplex)
Wes Anderson has always been known for a having a brilliant yet sometimes surprising cast ensemble in his films, and with Johnny Depp, one of the biggest names yet, signing up for his next film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, it looks as if nothing is about to change.
Following this year’s brilliant Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel already stars Anderson regular Owen Wilson, but the latest name to be confirmed on board is British actor Jude Law, who told MTV that he was given a role earlier this month.
Whilst doing the press rounds for his latest film, Anna Karenina, Law commented that the director “sent me this wonderful script. I think we start work on that in January… It will be the usual team [of actors]. I have heard Johnny Depp is indeed playing a key role in it. I think my role is fleeting, but I’m very excited to be a part of that Wes Anderson family.”
While we know that Wilson is definitely cast in the film, Law’s comment about the usual team of actors returning could mean that Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, and possibly even Angela Lansbury may be making an appearance too.
As you can see, details are very minimal; all we know is that one character is a psychic, and that some of the film, if not all of it, will be filmed in the Hungarian capital to fit in with the title.
What we do know, however, is that this role is fulfilling a long-held dream for Law, who also commented that, “I’ve been a huge fan of Wes. I pestered him with emails for years, saying ‘I want to live in one of your films and I’d like to be in one of your films.'”
With filming set to begin very early next year, we could find see the release of The Grand Budapest Hotel by the end of 2013.
